Tea from my life

I have probably had one of the most hectic weeks. One of those times when you don’t find time for anything else except work.

But that’s not the highlight. The beautiful part is I took a holiday. I took my Sunday off. It is special because I have never had an off day in the last 336 days (it’s a bad thing; no one should be working this much).

Anyway, beautiful Sunday. Played a cricket match, scored 95 (sucks to miss out on a century), attended a coffee workshop, and had dinner with friends.

Analysis in 150 words

Companies that advertise in newsletters do one thing wrong.

They optimise for sales.

Instead you should be optimising for funnels. That's where the best, long-term ROI is.

HubSpot is a master of this. You can never access a HubSpot resource without getting on their email list.

What do I mean by this?

Multiple touch points, expecting a sale is okay.

But if I were you, I'd set up a webinar or a lead magnet to drive opt-ins.

This will take audience from the distributor's list to my ToFu. It gives me more control to nurture and push through.

Of course, this framework has its nuances based on publisher, advertiser, business, etc., but broadly speaking, funnel optimisation as a newsletter advertiser is worth the attempt.

Test it out. That’s the least we can do.

PS: For operators, use this in ToFu or Crosspromotions. Always have a lead magnet.
